John Hollins in Dream Team

John Hollins was Ron Atkinson's assistant manager during his time at Harchester United. It is unclear when exactly he arrived but he is with Atkinson in the Addison Road dugout when Harchester play Liverpool in January 1995. During his time as caretaker, Michael Jacobs describes John as a loyal club servant. It is possible to view Hollins as arriving with Atkinson in December 1992 as his real life career saw him out of management between leaving Chelsea in 1988 and caretaking at QPR in 1997.

When Big Ron resigns in October 1997, Hollins is left to take charge of the first team until a permanent replacement is appointed. His intentions for this only to be temporary are clear to everyone, right down to youth team level and when Ian Coates is unveiled that December, John is happy to return to his assistant managerial duties, where he stays until landing the job as boss of Swansea City in 1998.

Behind the scenes, Hollins worked as the show’s Football Consultant.
