Team Players>> Mark "Ammo" Hammond

Defender (#14) (2003-05)

With his ability to steal every scene he was in, Mark "Ammo" Hammond was another of new permanent boss Stuart Naysmith’s early signings, first seen at the leaving Karl Fletcher’s testimonial. In his first season, the club is on a knife edge with Coopers Bank, liquidated after dropping past the set sixth table place in a 2-0 loss to Leicester. Ammo is one of the 11 Angry Men, refusing to accept the end of the club, before signing to play unpaid until the end of the season as a condition of Coopers reopening the club. The Dragons finish on a high - 4th in the table and Champions League qualification, but the lifetime football bans for Stuart and Pilar's match fixing that led to the liquidation isn't enough for UEFA, who make an example of the club by relegating them for the next season.

Although the Championship is the last place the Premier League players of HUFC wanted to be, Ammo is around to provide the quick quips and humour, especially at times when a brawl sees the squad locked in a sweltering cell before their Champions League Group Stage Qualifier against Sporting Lisbon, or at an arduous boot camp. There are serious times too - Ammo joins his team mates in feeling immense guilt at Clyde Connelly’s suicide. When Lee moves in with Viv, it gives the lads the chance to finally see inside Jaws's pad, and it is Ammo who first uncovers his infamous wall, a highly dedicated and detailed spread of all the games Harchester are due to play, have played and how they will play them, with Viv predicting the final result.

There is a darker warning to Viv's wall however, his obsession developing into an unhealthy state of mind, and by the time the team are set to play the FA Cup Fifth Round, Viv asking Ammo to tell the imagined Chelsea that he loves her before laughing at the look on his face, is the worst out of him they are hoping for. By half time, Viv has assaulted Presley, and when restrained to the ground by the lads, has a free arm to repeatedly punch Ammo in the face. Ammo gets a moment of glory on the pitch when, with Danny Sullivan, he contributes one of two winning goals bringing the side back from 1-0 down to Sheffield United.

As Harchester reach the Championship Play Off final, Ammo embodies the spirit by showing off a purple dye job on the crown of his head. A 1-0 win over the club he had left to join Harchester, West Ham, sees the Dragons regain their Premiership place. Although what follows in the Millennium Stadium car park explosion is the end for Ammo and his team mates, it would be amiss not to close on Ammo's final words for the man responsible, Don Barker, said to his community artwork portrait: "And you can kiss my arse baby!".
