A thorough professional, Phillipa French was Jerry Block's lawyer, often called on to exhaustively dig the businessman out of any scrapes he'd gotten himself into, which seemed to happen all the more when he purchased Harchester United Football Club!

When star striker and manager Luis Amor Rodriguez is accused of attacking Mica Hocknell, Jerry asks Phillipa to represent Luis for the best chance of him being acquitted. Shortly into the case, Jerry discovers Luis is in a relationship with his wife Lynda, and sets about trying to rid Luis to prison starting with refusing to pay his bail with the excuse it would have a bad effect on the sponsors if the club got involved. At the party to announce the building of the club's new stadium, Phillipa shows Karl Fletcher with an arm-lock how she is not a woman to be hit on, while Helen Jensen is hit by Luis's car and reveals she has learned the truth, clearing Luis of the attack.

A short time after the Dragon's Lair has opened, the club is rocked by a plane crash on the way back from a UEFA Cup match in Holland, and four of the team are killed. While Jerry has to deal with the surviving players, Phillipa keeps things afloat at the club where there had been no present chief executive. Wes Kingley's agent Mark McNeill notices all the players’ contracts sprawled out across the table, and remarks to Phillipa how there must have been around £20M of talent on the plane. Phillipa has to inform Jerry that it looks like he will lose £25M in insurance, as the private plane wasn't official club transport.

Phillipa is later by Jerry's side when D.I. Dawson's investigation sees Jerry himself linked to the Wembley gunman, and several files are removed from the club in relation to this. When Jerry uses club money to finally see off MacKinley, he has to create a cover in the money being a bribe to Councillor Lal. Phillipa is there to tell Jerry the fraud charge he is facing will see the end of his ownership of Harchester United.
