Exclusive: James Floyd Interview

harchester.net (December 2006)

How did you get the role of Miguel Lopez? My agent arranged a meeting for Jason Porter however they called me back to read for some Spanish dude. They liked my acting, saw I spoke some Spanish, so the next stage was convincing Tyson I could play footie. Then I had to wait for Jane to give me the nod and now I'm emailing Reuben Morley!

How did you first get into acting and what other roles have you had? My dad took me to see the Royal Shakespeare Company when I was younger. I knew I had to become an actor after that. Then came drama for GCSE and A-level, also school plays. But the National Youth Theatre really helped me get into the 'professional industry'. I have played many roles from Romeo at school to a sexually confused 25 year old in an episode of Holby City, lol. I started in theatre but now am moving onto screen roles also.

Had you seen Dream Team prior to joining and what were your opinions? I didn't watch it before I got the role, but like most young lads I had over heard conversations at school about the legendary Fletch and the ridiculously sexy Lynda Block.

Who are your best buddies on the show? Don't have any, get on well with everyone but I have done a lot of scenes with Jonny Howard who is a legend. However he has an obsession with Tetley tea! Also have done many scenes with some new characters who you must watch out for. It gets even better guys!

Harchester is known as “the club of death”, are you worried that Miguel might soon meet a sticky end? Ha ha, a mate of mine asked me the same question! It's not down to me, that's for the powers that be to decide and I trust that whatever they throw at me will be necessary.

What do you think are Miguel's best attributes? He's a prolific goal-scorer, always an essential ingredient to a great side. He can be a joker which is great to play. Also he is honest…well sometimes!

What do you think are Miguel's worst attributes? Where do I start? Let's be truthful, he can be a spoilt brat, womaniser, selfish player, selfish spouse, insensitive to others and very sly. But wicked to pretend to be!

Are you anything like Miguel in real life? No I hope not. He's more good-looking though

If you met Senor Lopez in real life, would you be good friends or arched enemies? Would avoid him, although he does know a lot of women! No seriously I would severely dislike him. Come on! He is a twat sometimes.

What has been your favourite scene to film? That would be a huge spoiler if I mentioned it, let's just say it gets pretty cold filming in November! But I really enjoyed the scene with me and those fifteen ladies…oh wait that was a dream..not Dream Team, doh!

What has been your worst scene to film? The Studs scenes at the Xmas party were very long days in a boiling hot room. But they looked great didn't they? What an episode!

Can you give us any spoilers for the second half of the season? Yes…I do take cheques! Just kidding, I mean No. Tell Jane I definitely said 'No'.

Do you actually like football? Yes but cricket and rugby will always be in my heart.

What football team do you support? GOOOONNNEEERRRRSSS!

How did you spend Christmas day? Errrr it's 11.30pm on xmas eve while I'm typing!

What's the most important thing to you at Christmas? Family and food.

Favourite Christmas Food? Crunchy, slightly burnt roast potatoes with gravy.

Favourite Christmas Drink? Water, sorry I'm a bit boring.

Do you have any New Years Resolutions? To score even more goals for Harchester. Oh yeah and also to stop eating biscuits on set.

What do you usually do on New Years Eve, and how will you be spending this year? Going to a big party in the West End this year. But I'm usually ill at New Year's, it's happened three times!

The end is very near, what does the future hold for you after Dream Team? Steven Spielberg just gave me a call and I told Stevie that I'd think about doing ET 2. I just don't think I've got the right look for the main character. No seriously I will be doing more screen work as I want to continue to hone my skills in this medium. Then I'll go back to theatre again.

Is there anything you wish to take with you from the Dream Team filming set when the show wraps up filming forever? Miguel's suit at the Xmas party, my harchester shirt and that underarmour stuff. Just realised that is all costume!

Where would you like to be (both personally and professionally) in 10 years time? Definitely doing timeless movies. My dream is to be working with Scorsese, De Niro and a computer-generated Brando in one film. I don't ask for much. Personally I would love to be married with kids living on an island.

What other jobs have you done apart from acting? Merchandiser(pestering newsagents to put up posters in their shops),usher at theatre(changing toilet roles and serving ice cream) and a tutor to my little superstar cousin Carl. Hello Carl!

Describe your perfect day. Watching Three movies on the trot, preferably one French and one Asian. Then eating strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream but not getting fat. Talking with my mum, read some philosophical writings by Max Ehrmann and snuggling up to someone I love.

Describe your perfect date. Alicia Keys.. wow!

Describe your perfect partner. Don't believe in the 'perfect' partner but intelligence is the sexiest thing ever. And the ability to give a great massage isn't a bad thing!

Merry Xmas all! Peace and love, James.
