Scott Mean Lands Major TV Role

Former Cherries midfielder Scott Mean is set to feature a lot more frequently in the new series of Sky One's Dream Team, which kicks off in October. Bosses of the prime time Sunday drama series shockingly killed off a number of characters at the end of the last series in a major coach crash, so the door is open for Scott Mean to be thrust into the limelight.

Mean had been an extra on Dream Team as himself but for a few episodes of the last series he was given a storyline as reserve team player Robbie Walsh. In the show, he impressed manager Patrick Doyle in training and was moved up to the first team for their vital UEFA cup quarter final against Celtic. He went on to score one of the three goals that took his team Harchester United through to the semi finals. He found the attention from competing agents Taylor Doyle and Tash Parker daunting as he had spent years in the reserve teams without so much as a whisper from either. Tash Parker thought she had managed to sign him but it was Taylor Doyle who signed the "boy wonder" from under Tash's nose.

Mean, who is good friends with Jamie Redknapp, started his career under Mel Machin at Dean Court and soon became a fans favourite. However, he soon lost his place in the first team because of injury problems, but in 1996 Harry Redknapp expressed an interest in him and took him to West Ham. Things failed to work out at Upton Park, and he found himself back at Bournemouth in '99, and scored on his debut against Cambridge. He played most of the 99/00 season, but was released in late 2000 and has since made appearances for Kinstonian and Crawley. He has played small roles in a number of things, including in hit movie Mike Bassett: England Manager, and has been seen on some adverts recently.

A Dream Team insider said: "It's the first time a Premiership player has had a proper acting role in the show and Scott's really excited. He made a brief appearance in the last series, but will be back in a much bigger role. His character is going to set the cat among the pigeons." It may not be Mean's acting skills that have helped him in his push however (it usually isn't on Dream Team).

The show is famed for it's rather, erm, romantic storylines. Last series saw a striker Karl Fletcher have a secret affair with Managing Director Lynda Block, who was engaged to Chairman Sam Irving at the time, and Mean's appearance may have more to do with his success than his acting abilities. Georgia Zaris, who plays Claudia Irving on the show, mentioned in an interview that she found Scott "very nice to look at" but unfortunately for her he is married with a child.
