The Leading Striker

Maxim Magazine (September 2002)

"In my time as a Grand Prix girl I've held Ralf Schumacher's, Jacques Villeneuve's and Rubens Barrichello's. I'd say Barrichello's was probably the longest." Angela is clearly not the sort of girl to take a back seat where sportsmen are concerned. Disappointingly, she is talking about her three-year stint as a grid girl, where she was charged with holding up the names of Formula 1 drivers.

Now playing footballer's wife Tash Parker in Sky's Dream Team, the 25-year-old from Bromley is still turning heads.

Dating Spurs footballer Stephen Clemence, the slinky blonde would appear to be perfectly cast. "I wasn't going out with Stephen when I got the part, so at least that never influenced their decision," she laughs. "The strange thing was I also had a few recalls to play Chardonnay in Footballer's Wives but as I was still under contract to Dream Team, I had to opt out. At the time her character was a blonde called Cheryl - I think they changed it because it was too close to Sheryl Gascoigne."

Angela, you are entering your third series of Dream Team, do you still enjoy being in the show?  Yes, I absolutely love it! It's my first big job in a leading role so it's been my thing for the past three years.

Tash is a glamour model is she faithful to her husband?  People think she mucks around but it's only her second affair in three years! I love her because of the way she has matured. At first she was a spoilt daddy's girl and hated being away from London. Since then, she has had to deal with so much, a cheating husband who turned to big time gambling. Then she came responsible for her father's agency and now she's amother.

Has her behavior ever horrified you?  I'm happy. I have never really got a scriptand thought: 'oh no, they can't make her do that!' They have never really gone over the top with anything.

Who would you rather go out for a night on the piss with, someone from your neck of the woods or someone from elsewhere?  Irish people are a right laugh. They tend to let their hair down more than Southerners. The Irish just let go and don't stop until they fall over, and then they get up and start again.

Are the girls from Bromley sexier than girls from other areas?  They definitely are. Bromley is the land of beautiful women. There are more gorgeous girls than there are gorgeous boys, which is why us Bromley girls put our feelers out for men from other areas.

Who's the most famous person from the Bromley area?  Right at this moment in time, Kate off Big Brother. But by the time this is out it'll have reverted back to Kelly Brook and Louise Redknapp.

What does a man have to do to capture your heart, or the key to your bedroom?  Firstly, make me laugh. Secondly, stimulate my mind. As for the bedroom, if they get as far as those two, then they're doing alright.

Would you say the men from Bromley are more accomplished lovers than those from elsewhere?  No.

Given that her life appears to be immersed in football, does she have a fondness for wearing a football strip in bed?  I have got an England football shirt but I only wore it during England's World Cup matches. It's not that I mind dressing up in the bedroom but I think guys should be willing to do the same for us. If I had my way I'd have him in a soldier's outfit because I'm a big one for uniforms.

How does your boyfriend handle your love scenes?  I was already in Dream Team when he met me,so he already knew the score, but it's never easy to watch someone you're in love with kissing someone else passionately on the television. I would not like it personally!

Formerly a big one for Arsenal, did you switch allegiance after meeting Stephen?  I couldn't have been a huge Gooner because I got easily swayed out of it. But I hate admitting that I'm living witha footballer because it's such a cliche and when people realise he's Ray Clemence's son they always ask if, like his father, he's good with his hands. He knows what he's doing, so I guess some of it's rubbed off!

Did you worry when Footballer's Wives started on ITV1 last year?  We were just really intrigued to see it. I think it's very different- they focus on the real extremes in the football world and they always seem to go over board. I think they would be the first to admit that are almost taking the mickey a little in avery tongue-in-cheek way. Dream Team is a lot more realistic about football as opposed to the going's on behind the scenes.
