Byron Erobobo (Reice
Weathers) 2004-2005
Duration: 335 (8.11) - 336 (8.12), 338 (8.14)
Byron is a
happy boy who lives with his mom Shanice. Although Shanice's job as a nurse sees
Byron on his own a lot, his time is often occupied with Harchester United -
when he isn't vying for a place in the academy he is playing them on Football
Manager. Since he was young, Byron has held onto a story of how Shanice went
out with Harchester hero Karl Fletcher before he was born, and with his
real dad never being in his life, Byron has come to see Fletch as his absent
father.
This comes to
a head at Christmas 2004, when, to gain him extra credit to progress through
the academy, Byron lists Fletch as his dad on trial forms. Dean Boyle has just unsuccessfully tried to
persuade Fletch to return to the Dragon's, and with this information knows he
can get Fletch over from Spain. Fletch reluctantly
agrees, but is deeply suspicious that Shanice is saying Byron is his in order
to get his money, which insulted, she throws him out, but not before
reminding Fletch they did get together at a nightclub twelve years ago. At
Fletch's insistence, Byron is dropped from the academy, and after upsetting
Byron with a harsh telling off, Fletch feels guilty. Shanice repeats that she
doesn't want Fletch's money, just his name and he agrees to get Byron his
place back.
An
out-of-shape Fletch introduces Byron to the press as his son, while Viv Wright and Curtis Alexander cook up a plan to get Fletch
fit so he can perform well in the FA Cup 3rd Round which Don Barker sees as a distraction to the club's
promotion. They bring Byron to guilt-trip Fletch into going on a long run,
though he doesn't tell Shanice and she thinks Fletch is being irresponsible
acting as Byron's dad. Byron gets on well with Lee and is excited when he begins seeing his
mom. Shanice puts an early stop to things when she believes Lee behaves like
a typical footballer. Viv is on hand again with a plan, and babysits Byron as
Lee makes his plea to Shanice over a date. Byron helps Viv see he needs to
get in touch with his absent wife. Lee and Shanice get back together but at
the end of the season tragedy strikes and Byron loses his father-figure in
Fletch and stepfather in Presley thanks to Barker's actions and the coach
explosion at the Millennium Stadium.
