Team Players>> Jon Whiteman

Defender (#42) (2004-05)

With Coopers Bank shutting the January transfer window for Harchester United buying any new players, the club turned to its youth team to cover any outstanding places in their mission to stay above the all-important 6th table place. Defender Jon Whiteman had proved his worth as one of the stars of the Under 19's the previous season, and was called up to the first’s bench alongside Charlie Taylor and Mark Dutzmore. It wasn't long before a loss to Leicester saw Coopers stay true to their warning and liquidate the club. Jon may have thought his time with the Dragons ended here, but the regular eleven refuse to let the club die and an agreement to continue unpaid until the end of the season sees Harchester, and Jon, return.

The team finish 4th, surviving, and qualifying for the Champions League, but owing to the management's role in match fixing leading to the earlier liquidation, are relegated to the First Division by UEFA. As Jon adjusts to a season in the Championship, with the excitement of competing in the CL, his team mate Clyde Connelly is struggling. In touching scenes, Jon is seen to give Clyde a reassuring pat on the shoulder in training, and when Clyde takes his own life, Jon stands with his team mates as Clyde is laid to rest, fighting back the tears. The event comprehends the squad and Curtis is shown to check on Jon during the team's CL second leg against FC Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

The Dragons make it to the Quarter Final Second Leg of the CL and are on course for the Championship Play Off Final. Jon doesn't make selection for the trip to the Millennium Stadium, a move which ensures he lives when Don Barker drives his car into Harchester's coach, and all but three of Jon's present team mates perish. Following this, Jon is released by the club that summer.
