Position: Harchester United Assistant Manager (2006-2007)

Steve hit the height of his playing career when he was part of the Blackburn Rovers side that won the Premier League in 1995. He progressed into coaching and in the 2006-07 pre-season he became Alex Rose’s number two at FA Cup holders Harchester United, following Ashleigh King's arrest for the death of his brother Casper Rose. Steve joins Harchester's backroom staff at the same time as physio Shakey, and the legendary HUFC drama kicks off even before the season's first game. At the Southend friendly at Roots Hall, Steve is tasked with fitting fan Jason Porter into first teamer Jack Bircham's kit, after Alex plucks him from the crowd to put on the pitch. Steve's partnership with Alex is short-lived, as he confesses to being responsible for Casper's death but appoints his old Sheffield Wednesday team mate Jimmy Craig to take the reigns. Jimmy wants Steve to be his assistant, and they are both set to lose their roles if new chairman Terry Harrison brings in his own choice, so they begin plotting their winning streak on the pitch.

At their first game against Fulham, the Dragons are 1-0 down in the first half, but make it back with goals from Miguel and captain Liam, and although their UEFA Cup run ends with their Second Leg Tie and a 2-2 draw, Harchester do not suffer a single other loss, and Terry adds after Christmas he will look into drawing Jimmy a permanent contract. At the Boxing day game against Manchester City, Jimmy's daughter Gemma is found collapsed on the floor. Jimmy leaves Steve in charge, and when Jason's fears of making his debut overwhelm him, he runs from the bench. Steve is not impressed that he had to answer questions from the press about Jason's behaviour whilst the Gaffer's daughter is in hospital. As Gemma is on a slow recovery, Steve is supportive to Jimmy, keeping things afloat with the team when he is called away. When Harchester Chronicle hack Tom Magee uses Gemma's recovery to criticise Jimmy's managing efforts, Amy assists Steve at the conference as Jimmy is refusing to converse with the press, and Steve ends up walking out too when the press again only want to focus on Jimmy and Gemma and not the football.

During this time, Danny Sullivan has been on loan at Southend, and returning to Harchester with a knee injury, Sully is irritated when he goes round to ex-wife Kim's house to see their children and gets a surprise when Steve appears from behind Kim. Danny learns that Kim and Steve are now seeing each other, and Liam reminds Sully that Steve is no longer his coach, and how the team are aware of Steve and Kim's relationship. Sully wishes Steve good luck with Kim, as he's going to need it! As the season draws to a close, anonymous troublemaker Dragonslayer plants a story about one of the team sleeping with Gemma, which leads to Jimmy questioning each member as they prepare to face West Ham. Kim turns up in London with the other wives to make sure Steve isn't the guilty party!

Steve's mind is on the final game of the season, which could see Harchester be title holders for the first time in 21 years. Steve could never imagine he would mostly be steering the boys as during the game Jimmy is mysteriously called away, and doesn't return. Steve makes a heroic effort with what he's left with, and with Liam's guidance Steve makes the decision to take the struggling Gavin off and replace him with Jason, who ultimately provides the winning goal.
