Team Players>> Alex Lawler
Goalkeeper
(#13) (2001-05) Another
home grown talent from Harchester's youth team,
Alex Lawler, Sexy (yes!) his nickname within the squad, gained his promotion
as the 2001-02 season got underway. His first prominent take-up of the first
team goal isn't for any regular fixture, or even at the Dragon's Lair, but
the UEFA Cup First Round Second Leg at Tolka Park when regular keeper Jamie Parker isn't selected to travel and second-choice Ashley Harrison is out injured. Saving Shelbourne's last kick at 4-4, Alex is back for Harchester's Second Round Second Leg when Jamie fakes an
injury, a 2-1 win against Rangers. Jamie
is made well aware he has cause to be concerned by the younger Lawler's good
performances in goal, and Alex is selected once more for what should be the
season's last game, when Jamie's behaviour has
become ever more unstable. The match against Everton will decide Harchester's fate in the Premiership, and when Jamie
doesn't play he takes the dressing room hostage, tying up Alex and his team
mates before being shot dead by SO19. As
Jamie's replacement, Alex is joined by a succession of other former youth
team keepers in Tommy Moore and Justin Lee, but as the January transfer window of 2004 arrives,
Alex is out injured for two weeks and it is decided a new older goalie is
required. In comes the fearsome Viv "Jaws" Wright, who might not tie
Lawler up, but is still menacing if he gets in his way! When he himself isn't
selected to face Arsenal, Viv knows without Alex Stuart will have no choice but to award him his
place back, so he stamps on Lawler's hand. Recovering
from this, the following season sees Alex suffer a knee injury as the club
face Southampton in the 5th Round of the FA Cup, and Nathan Woods is called up to cover. By the time the team
