Team Players>> Tony Charles

Goalkeeper / Striker (#24) (2001-2002)

Primarily a goalkeeper though could also play in the striker role, Tony arrived from West Ham United part-way through the 2000-01 season. He becomes more prominent in the side from early the following season under Alan Rothman’s management, when he is included in the qualifying Round of the Champions League First Leg. With regular goalkeeper Jamie Parker fit, and Ashley Harrison second choice, Tony is a sub for a striker, and gets his moment when the struggling Karl Fletcher is taken off at half-time.

At the UEFA Cup Second Round Second Leg against Rangers, Jamie has to duck out in order to search for Victoria Baptiste's incriminating tape. Tony replaces Jamie in goal and it is a 2-1 win for Harchester. By the end of the season, with Alex Lawler also on the reserve list for first team goalkeepers, Tony heads for Queens Park Rangers where he would get more chances.
